AND SO IT BEGINS with the Nonsense Period (1980-1982). The band members -- Jon Niccum, Steve Revare, Jon Bjorn Skaptason and Jeff Drake -- have donned their Chuxxian alter egos: respectively, Bobby Wendalo, Fenris "The Rhythmless" Scumrut, Foz Gutterslime and Thos E. Gutterslime. They will continue to record under pseudonyms for the rest of the band's existence. Although some of the names will change. The "joke" behind Skap and Jeff being Foz & Thos E. Gutterslime, such as it is, is that they are "twins" but they look nothing at all like each other. Oh, ha ha ha! Isn't that hilarious? Point of interest: This concept of being "twins" but not really being twins is a couple of years ahead of the debut of the band Thompson Twins, a trio who are not related to each other at all. Along these same lines, the spelling of Chuxx with two X's, also predates double-X bands such as The Fixx and Taxxi by at least two years. All of these albums were recorded in the facility that became known as Steve's Parent's Basement, owing to the fact that it was indeed simply the basement of Steve's parent's house. The Chuxx would record there until 1983 -- halfway through the recording of Supplementary Earfood -- when Steve's folks would decide to move to a condo. They would do so without even so much as a moment of consideration to how it would affect The Chuxx. |
